I was born in Colorado but have lived in Washington state and Texas as well. As a little girl I would always play school so naturally I grew up to be a teacher. I went to BYU and graduated in Special Education with a minor in Spanish. I taught resource for two years and then decided to stay home with my children, when my youngest was in school all day I went back to teaching. I taught Kindergarten at a charter school for two years and then came here to Mill Creek, teaching second grade for one year and first grade for 8. I am delighted to be your child’s teacher!
Parent notes
I will send home a parent note each week that will have all the things we will learn during the week.
Homework
I do send homework home on Mondays with it due on Fridays unless it is a short week. It is usually a list of spelling words to study, a reading log, and a practice reading page. I like to give spelling tests on Fridays.
Folders
Each child will get a homework folder. The right side will have papers that need to be completed and then returned to school. The left side will have papers that you can keep at home. Please help your child find a place at home to keep the folder so that it won’t get lost.
Discipline
Each child has a clothespin with their name on it. Everyone starts the day on green, then if they are behaving they move it up to blue, then purple, and finally purple plus. If they are not behaving they move it down to yellow, then orange, then red. At the end of class they get a treat, 1 if they are on green, 2 if they are on blue, . Pink is five, purple is four, blue is three, green is two, yellow is minus three, orange is minus four, and red is minus five. The reason I like this system is a child is not stuck on red if they make one mistake. They can move up or down throughout the day. Children will be able to turn in their points on Fridays for a sticker or something in the treasure box. At the end of each day children on pink get to take home a pink note to tell you they have had a wonderful day. If they come home with a red note that means they broke the rules, and it needs to be signed by you and returned to me the next day. If children do not do their work during center time, they will need to stay in for recess to finish it. A child may also be kept in during recess if they have a hard time following the rules.
Birthdays
Children may bring a treat to share with the class on their birthdays if they want to but it is optional.
Holiday Parties
We will have three parties: Halloween, Winter, and Valentines.
Volunteering
Sometimes I need parents to help with fieldtrips, parties, cutting out things for class, sorting papers into cubbies, and reading with students.
Donations
We could always use Kleenex, hand sanitizer, wipes, gallon and sandwich reclosable bags.
